I recently attended the AWS Summit at the Excel Arena with a few of my colleagues some of whom were new to the AWS platform given that they were more familiar with Microsoft Azure and others who were already knowledgeable on AWS.
I arrived at the Excel Arena early due to the heightened security in London following the recent terrorist attacks and therefore I started to head round the partner expo. To be honest the expo was pretty much like any other conference I’ve been at with numerous companies trying to pitch their technology, but it was a good opportunity to catch-up with a couple of my ex-colleagues whom were now working at Cloudreach and DataPipe.
The keynote was well attended with Gavin Jackson opening the summit before handing over to the larger than life CTO Dr Werner Vogels. One thing that immediately came to life straight away from my personal perspective was what a smart cookie he was. He knew the technology like the back of his hand especially the next generation bits coming down the line such as AI.
For the breakout sessions I decided to focus my attention on the Security sessions specifically and thanks to Amazon the following links are to the Slide Decks from that day.
- Security at Scale with AWS
- Advanced Techniques for DDoS Mitigation and Web Application Defense
- Automating Security in Cloud Workloads with DevSecOps
The key take away for myself is that as we all know Security shouldn’t be an after thought, it must be embedded in the Business processes as well as the Solution design itself.
